Utgrävningsdokumentation från Labraunda tillgängliggörs digitalt

Arkeologerna i Labraunda 1948, ur Gustavianums historiska samlingar
Nu påbörjas Uppsala universitetsbiblioteks del i projektet Mötesplats Medelhavet (”Labraunda”) – en forskningsplattform för digitaliserade arkeologiska samlingar och arkiv vid de svenska instituten i Athen, Rom och Istanbul. Projektets syfte är att tillgängliggöra material från utgrävningen av en Zeushelgedom i Labraunda, Turkiet.
Tidigare svåråtkomligt material kommer att bli tillgängligt i digital form via databasen Alvin och även i den internationella databasen för arkeologiskt material Pragmata.
Utgrävningen har skett under svensk ledning sedan början på 1940-talet och fram till 2013, därefter har utgrävningen övergått i fransk regi. Syftet med digitaliseringen är att materialet från den svenska utgrävningstiden skall göras lätt tillgängligt för alla deltagare i de olika länder som varit inblandade i utgrävningen, och därmed underlätta vidare arbete och analyser. Samtidigt blir det möjligt även för andra forskare att ta del av detta arbete.
Materialet består av material från 1940-talet fram till 2011 i form av grävdagböcker, ritningar över utgrävningsområdet, korrespondens och annan dokumentation. Här finns även fotografier i form av negativ och glasplåtar som visar utgrävningsarbetet. Vissa av ritningarna är i dåligt skick och de tjugo mest skadade ritningarna kommer under hösten att konserveras av papperskonservator Floriane Clerc här på universitetsbiblioteket innan de går vidare till digitalisering under 2020.
Arkivet med detta arbetsmaterial har donerats till Uppsala universitetsbibliotek via den tidigare grävningsledaren Pontus Hellström, professor emeritus vid Institutionen för arkeologi och antik historia vid Uppsala universitet.
Originalhandlingarna kan även beställas fram och läsas på plats i Specialläsesalen på Carolina Rediviva, Uppsala universitetsbibliotek.
En övergripande registrering av innehållet i arkivet görs under denna höst i databasen Alvin av personal vid Avdelningen för specialsamlingar, och den övervägande delen av arkivet digitaliseras på plats på Uppsala universitetsbibliotek. Därefter kommer projektets medlemmar vid Institutionen för arkeologi och antikens historia vid Uppsala universitet att komplettera med mer information i Alvin.
